Ministry of Health revised the list of OTC drugs

The Ministry of Health has prepared a draft of a new OTC list of medicines. The document clarifies some of the concepts, and the list itself is aligned with the data on the presence or absence of registration of the drug.

However, some drugs from the OTC list in the new edition of the list will be excluded.

So, by prescription, most injectable drugs will be sold, including Alflutop, Actovegin, Solcoseryl, and Lidocaine.

Glucocorticosteroids for inhalation and intranasal administration will also be prescription drugs. The list also includes combined oral contraceptives, with the exception of emergency contraception.

Prescription drugs will also sell 5-alpha reductase inhibitors (finasteride and dutasteride).

Some forms of the following drugs are also excluded from the list: clindamycin, metformin, and also propafenone, hydrochlorothiazide in combination with triamterene, spironolactone, torasemide and beta-adrenoblocker atenolol in combination with diuretic and calcium channel blocker. A prescription will also be required for some imported eye drops, which are a combination of an antibacterial component with glucocorticosteroids and which have no domestic analogues.

Reduced and the list of OTC antibiotics. Now, without a referral, it will be possible to buy only amoxicillin, as well as its own with the addition of clavulanic acid, ampicillin, doxycycline and nitrofuran derivatives in forms for internal use.

"The decision to leave on prescription for most injecting drugs is due to the increased incidence of serious adverse reactions, including anaphylactic shock," Natalia Malashko, the head of the Department of Pharmacology at the Ministry of Health, explained to Medical Herald.

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and antispasmodics will continue to be sold without a prescription.

When the draft of the new list will be approved finally and will come into force, is not yet known.
