Scientists at the American University under the guidance of Professor Elaine Hardman studied the effect of eating walnuts on the likelihood of developing this cancer.
According to the study, eating two ounces (about 57 grams) of walnuts a day for two weeks significantly changes gene expression in confirmed breast cancer. In other words, the presence in the diet of these nuts slows the growth of cancer cells, and also reduces the risk of disease.
As part of the study, researchers examined a group of women with breast cancer – the positive effect of eating walnuts was proven experimentally for them.
In the near future, doctors will continue to investigate whether walnuts reduce the risk of developing or recurring breast cancer. It is also planned to check whether a similar effect will be revealed on other types of oncology.
