WADA keeps meldonium in the list of banned drugs

Meldonium has been included in the doping list by the World Anti-Doping Agency since 2016. Previously, this drug, which is supposed to help maintain the cardiovascular system, was actively used by many athletes.

"We have collected dietary supplements … even biologically active substances (biologically active substances), these are the same amino acids and minerals … It is not doping, it is not a (drug) preparation, it is a set of essential amino acids and minerals that are used every day, (for example ) in food, "Uyba told RIA Novosti, talking about replacing meldonium for athletes.

This dietary supplement is already in use. In it, among other things, there is potassium and sodium – they are also in meldonium.

Minerals and amino acids used in sports nutritional supplements are found in regular foods. So, there is a lot of potassium in quite standard products – potatoes and beans. Amino acids are rich in all meat products.

The banned WADA meldonium caused another doping scandal in sports after its traces were discovered by tennis player Maria Sharapova – the athlete did not know that the drug should not be taken now. By the way, WADA added this medicine to the list of banned drugs, despite the fact that there are no serious studies talking about the effectiveness of meldonium as a stimulant.
